Edmonton’s Largest Food Drive Set for September 23rd – Bringing Aid to Your Doorstep #EdmontonFoodDrive
As we approach the fall season, the concerns of back-to-school expenses and the rising cost of living weigh heavily on many families. Edmonton’s Food Bank is feeling the strain of increased demand for emergency food assistance during these trying times.
On Saturday, September 23rd, a vast brigade of volunteers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Edmonton will unite to collect non-perishable food donations, fortifying the reserves of Edmonton’s Food Bank. This marks the 14th year of the Edmonton Food Drive, now the city’s largest food collection event.
In the previous campaign, the generosity of Edmonton residents resulted in an astounding donation of nearly 250,000 pounds of food. In addition, 53,000 pounds of food were collected in neighbouring communities on the same day, benefitting their respective community food banks.
This week, hundreds of thousands of donation bags will be distributed to homes throughout the city. Residents along the collection routes can easily contribute by placing non-perishable food items on their doorsteps by 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 23rd. On that day, dedicated volunteers will collect the food, directing it towards Edmonton’s Food Bank and local food banks in nearby communities.
President Jamie Johnson of the Edmonton Riverbend Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints emphasizes, “This endeavour reflects our members’ commitment to following the example of Jesus Christ by caring for those in need. The food drive provides an opportunity for all residents along the collection routes to once again demonstrate their compassion and dedication to the principle of families helping families.”
