ABOUT THIS EVENT
Paul will share his heart-breaking – but ultimately redemptive – story to help you see yourself, and your relationship with God, in a new, healthier way. Not only is Paul an engaging and provocative writer, but he is also an excellent speaker and storyteller. You will be both encouraged and challenged by Paul’s talk.
Vanessa Kersting, an accomplished singer-songwriter from the land down under, will share some of her music, which is embedded with themes of love, hope, and divine union. Vanessa is passionate to see the truth of the inclusive Gospel permeate deep into people’s souls and uses this as a basis every time she sings and speaks.
ABOUT WM. PAUL YOUNG
Wm. Paul Young was born in Canada and raised among a stone-age tribe by his missionary parents in the highlands of what was Netherlands New Guinea (now West Papua). He suffered great loss as a child and young adult and now enjoys the “wastefulness of grace” with his growing family in the Pacific Northwest.
Paul’s first book, The Shack, sold enough copies to give everyone in Australia a copy. His second book, Cross Roads, returned him to the New York Times bestseller list. Likewise, for his third and fourth books – Eve and Lies We Believe About God, respectively.
Paul intended to write The Shack as a Christmas gift to his children; he wrote it on the train commuting to one of his three jobs, with no intention of ever publishing it. The book’s success led to a major motion picture, starring Sam Worthington, Octavia Spencer, and country music superstar, Tim McGraw.
However, the author’s journey to success was riddled with a lifetime of sadness and mistakes. A victim of horrendous childhood sexual abuse, Paul says his quest for unconditional love drove him to have an affair that nearly tore his family apart. Paul says the biggest gift The Shack has given him is an invitation to hear other people’s stories.
