Week Sixteen: Circut Training - Short on Time - Huge on Results!
To give your strength training program a boost, try circuit training. Similar to the way interval training can turbo-charge cardiovascular workouts, circuit training can improve the results you get from your resistance training routine while minimizing the amount of time you spend in the gym. It's great for burning calories and losing body fat. Much like aerobic training, circuit training has been shown to improve heart health and fitness levels, increase strength and burn tons of calories after the exercise is over.
Circuit training can either be a combination of high-intensity aerobics and resistance training, or resistance training alone. An exercise "circuit" is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. When one circuit is complete, you begin the first exercise again for another circuit. For the best results, the time between exercises in circuit training should be short. Move quickly from one exercise to the next in order to keep your heart rate up for the entire circuit.
This training method is a simple way to pump new life and excitement into your strength training routine. It is easy to incorporate into your SimpleStrength™ program. Instead of resting between your strength training sets, keep moving onto the next exercise until you've completed one set of all exercises you need to perform for that training session. Take a break and repeat the cycle again until you've finished all of your sets. If you want an extra boost to your metabolism, try adding in 5-10 minutes of cardio in between each cycle. Not only will you work up a good sweat, you'll do it in less time!
Circuit training is a fun, effective and great way to get your body into fat-burning mode.
