Wash your hands!

Posted by Jon Ramer  |  POST A COMMENT

Norovirus is back, and Alberta Health Services warned about a spike in numbers in Edmonton today.

"No specific facilities per say," said Dr. Chris Sikora, the AHS medical officer of health for the Edmonton-area, about whether any warnings had gone up at any health facilties in Metro Edmonton. "We do, typically, see norovirus creep up in long-term care facilities and child care facilities."

The norovirus causes many of the same symptoms as a bad stomach flu -- nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. They typically last two-to-three days. It is highly contagious, so hand-washing is important, as is staying home if you feel any of those symptoms.

Keep a close eye on those at risk, notably children and the elderly. (bp)
